I have a deep and abiding affection for railways. Since my first train set (when I was quite little) I’ve fancied having a layout and running trains. I also discovered last year that I enjoy modelling a little, and I’m taking the opportunity this summer to exhibit some of my trains at my local transport museum.

I’ll be showing off my quite amateur skills and showing at least three layouts – one of which I completed last year was part of Mike Potter’s 60cm shelf challenge.

Worthies Halt is a simple “tuning fork” layout with a platform and siding for shunting.

Of course, there’s plenty to be done with even a simple shunting layout – it’s an opportunity to make believe and run whatever small locos and rolling stock I have handy.

I have also been working on a layout in a case called roman densha. It’s named for the Japanese for streetcar – just a little loop and a battery power supply sending a tram around an urban scene with a hand-panted sky and guardian Gundam robot standing over the city. It’s not complete yet, but here’s the latest:

More on this once I’ve made some real progress. In any event, these two and a third will be in Aldridge Transport Museum at the end of July and it would be lovely to see you there.
