Small Business Saturday – Free Assessment

I’m not usually one to bang the drum for small businesses, because I don’t think it’s the size of a business that matters so much as the service, the reach, the staff, the product and everything else that goes into a successful firm.

However, I’m encouraged by the increase in sole trading and small businesses I see around me, and I’m jumping on this particular bandwagon to lend my voice to the crowd. Yes, we’re small, but we are often passionate, direct, responsive, and able to focus more tightly on the needs of our customers.

Gigging for Charity

I’m gigging this year to support a charitable effort this summer. Between August 13th and 16th I hope to be cycling from one side of the North of England to the other. It’s all in aid of Kids UK, and to raise funds for this mammoth jaunt I’m offering to gig for charity.

Think of it as a two-for-one. If you agree to sponsor me for the ride, I’ll come and play for you. I’d be more than happy to provide music for a function or background to a dinner; a performance gig or melodic wallpaper to your event. Continue reading »

Some interesting times and forthcoming gigs.

Well, the school of Music Theory didn’t really take off. I’m still keeping the learning resources to hand in case a future use presents itself, and on that note I’m still happy to discuss options for schools who might want full or half day sessions.

The big news is that Dischord have been booked for a gig in September and had a triumphant Sunday afternoon jam in Walsall Arboretum last month.

Also in September, and October I’m honoured to be performing a couple of small gigs supporting evening events for charity. Although invite-only, it’s a great chance to do what I do best – make music and enjoy doing so.

Plans are afoot for Christmas Carolling in pubs around Aldridge and Walsall. If you want to get on board or suggest venues, by all means check out the Ales Beers and Carols blog.

Interesting Gig Proposal

I received an e-mail today from Najma Hush. She’s a very nice person who is launching an exhibition at the Ort Café on Friday February 21st.

You can see details of the event on Facebook.

Down the busy road to Bedforshire

Ordinarily, I consider the M1 more of an obstacle to progress than a conduit, but I’ll be driving down to Bedford three times this week in pursuit of delights which can be afforded only through the medium of improvised pantomime.

Music for Weddings

One of the most joyous things I get to do as a musician is play for weddings. Tonight I’m off to Aldridge Parish Church to meet a bunch of happy couples getting married in the coming year to tell them about the music we can offer, and help them if they need any advice.

Live in the Tree House

I’ve just confirmed a gig at The Tree House Bookshop in Kenilworth. Details are available here on Facebook, if you want to see a map and confirm attendance there.

If you fancy coming, but don’t use Facebook, just let me know via another channel (a comment here, even) and we’ll factor you in. I don’t expect we’ll push the capacity of the venue, but it would be good to know you’ll be there. It kicks off at 8 o’clock in the evening on November 14th.

I’m delighted to be able to do a small scale gig somewhere interesting, and to share in the fun, Andy Arnold will be joining me on guitar. Continue reading »
