Writing for String Quartet

I met the Mercian String Quartet last weekend. We were both hired to play at a wedding in Aldridge, and it was great to work with them. It’s nice to have found some “classical” collaborators who can cope with my improv streak.

Finding and following them on Twitter, they’ve made contact with the Tree House Bookshop, where a future gig might be on the cards; and I’ve proposed to write for them as well.

It’s still in the very early stages, but I have some ideas and I’m developing a minimalist number-based approach to generating content, while exploring the conventions of the genre. It will be my first chamber piece since University, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out now I’m not trying to get it graded but played.
